Street P.J.'s
New York Magazine just gave it their stamp of approval.
In the December 5th issue of New York Magazine (Fashionables Section), there exists yet another "I called it first" moment in accidental fashion. Writers Amy Larocca and Jenny Kang bring us an article about pajamas that are going "out of the bedroom and onto the boulevard".
There are some amazing photos of styling PJ's that include a $1200 Ferragamo number. The Derek Lam ones aren't so bad either. The article also features a few 20 something hipsters who wax poetic about structure and balance. Give me a break, girls. I can't believe that nobody bothered to ask me, a middle aged gal, who's been going out in her PJ's for years, what I thought. If I can be quoted, "PJ's just rock."
Early on in suburban life, I had become an expert at traveling around in my vehicle with my PJ's still on. I could accomplish a lot without ever having to leave my car until one day, in the busy drop off line at elementary school, my neighbor's son got his cello stuck in the way back of my mini van. Since we were holding up the line, I had no choice but to get out of the car, in my pajamas, to assist.
One of my friend's, who was three cars back, let out a loud whistle. Yes everyone...that was me wearing a faded Under Dog Tshirt from the 80's and the I-can't-throw-them-out-pilled black-watch plaid flannels. As pissed as I was at having to exit my car, the moment was completely liberating.
Some PJ's can hit the streets. I found it coincidental that my friend, Jamie, just gave me the PJ's photographed above for my birthday. They're warm for the winter and SO IN FASHION.
I'm excited because I'll be able to wear these EVERYWHERE, don't ya think?
