The Cleaners Caper
I finally confessed today, 6 months later.
About six months ago I attempted to rid my husbands closet of some old shirts that in my opinion, were ready to go. Of the 4 that I most detested, 3 I knew he wouldn't miss. 1 was a risky pick. The disgusting lime green colored short sleeved shirt that I absolutely abhorred. As I sometimes do, I decided to donate his shirts to our housekeeper who usually sends boxes of clothing to those in need in her home country. I made it through the first 2 weeks without my husband noticing that the clothes were gone, home free, bye-bye green shirt!
About 2 weeks later, my husband begins looking for his shirts. Turns out, he misses more than just the green one. When asked, I punted and offered that perhaps they were at the cleaners. Then I scrambled. I called our housekeeper and asked if she had sent the box of clothing yet. In the meantime, my husband called and yelled at the dry cleaners and asked me to stop using them. While I admit this is not a life threatening situation, it was beginning to spiral out of control and I started to feel guilty. Fortunately, after some scrambling, I was able to recover the shirts and reinstate the cleaners. (After my husband had indeed taken his shirts to another cleaners who had miraculously done a horrible job.)
I thought I had learned my lesson until another opportunity to purge his closet came along. I actually had to talk myself down from trying to do it again. Tonite I came clean and we had a good laugh about it. I think, however, he may consider locking up his side of the closet. As for the green shirt? Still in rotation. Sigh.
