It Takes FOREVER

I had to go to a black tie event and it took me ALL DAY to get ready.  REALLY?

I know it can sometime take women longer to get ready for an event.  It used to take my pre-teen daughter hours to decide what to wear to school.  I imagine it took some cave-girls forever to choose what animal skin to wear.  So I figure I come by it genetically.  Not all women fuss over this stuff, not all women care, have the time, the means or the vanity.  But this is Mypheme.  We are supposed to TELL IT LIKE IT IS.  So no hiding.   Here it is.

I decided this party was going to be my prom, which I never went to.  I wanted to look good. So a few days before,  I went out and scored a beautiful dress, on sale no less.  Okay, off to a good start.  I then organized the day of the event as a day dedicated to self beautification.  Hair, nails,  a trip to the tailor to pick up new dress, and to top it all off, I made an appointment for make-up.  I crammed all of this into an afternoon schlep festival.  I left myself 45 minutes to get home and throw it all together and get out the door.  No one at my house got fed that day. Not even the dogs.  I cast aside all obligations and spent the day on ME. OK. There. I said it.  And BTW?  It took my husband 20 minutes to get ready. Total.

We get to the event and there are literally a thousand people there. Dark lighting. It was a long awards ceremony and loads and loads of people were there.  We were in and out of there in 3 hours.  I spent all day getting ready for this and it was over in a nano-second.  And really?  While the whole room was very dressed up, I could have shown up in a sack and no-one would have cared or noticed.  That's not entirely true, my husband did tell me I looked good that night.   I suppose that is all that matters.  As for what I got out of it?  I got to keep the bambi eyelashes from the make-up lady in for another day.  They made me feel quite fetching while at home in my PJ's. Very glamorous.  It wasn't a total loss after all!
