Peep Show At The Tracks
The wonderful views at the High Line Park in Manhattan just got better.
In July, I blogged about the new park in NYC called the High Line. The High Line is an one and a half mile long park which runs through the meat packing district. The park uses the existing elevated tracks, constructed in the 1930’s to lift the dangerous freight trains off Manhattan’s streets, as its platform. It recently opened and features beautifully integrated landscapes and naturalistic plantings. It is perhaps, the coolest place to hit NYC in a long time.
There is an interesting piece of architecture which sits on top of the High Line that just happens to be The Standard Hotel, winner of the Municipal Arts Society of New York Award for best new building erected last year. The High Line offers great views of the hotel from both sides.
As it turns out, some guests at the hotel have been offering unobstructed views of themselves. How you ask?
They keep forgetting to close the curtains as they frolic naked in front of their rooms' floor-to-ceiling windows, easily viewed from the High Line park below.
City Council Speaker Christine Quinn has called the hotel's window action "unacceptable" but Aaron Lipman, who works in the neighborhood says the shows are "healthy and fun." He says they're like TV's "Wild Kingdom."
High Culture for the High Line.
