Fear Of Flying
If an airplane overshoots its destination by 150 miles, do passengers get the extra credit on their frequent flyer accounts?
I am very disturbed by this news. In case you missed it, Wednesday night, a Northwestern Airlines Airbus (that is a big plane) en route from San Diego with 144 passengers and a crew of five, passed over its destination... Minneapolis at 37,000 feet. The pilots had lost communications with air traffic controllers for over an hour and had overflown their destination by 150 miles. The plane turned around, landed safely and no one was injured.
The pilots are saying they were involved in a heated conversation and became distracted. Hello...ever hear of the phrase KEEP YOUR EYE ON THE ROAD?
I fly a lot and I am still a chicken. At the slightest bump I need a crowbar to pry my hands of the arm rests. News like this just tweaks my anxiety. What were those pilots doing?
Someone said that the FAA was looking into fatigue as a factor. We hear so much about low pay, work schedules, insufficient training....I mean come on, even Sully, the superman pilot is bitching that standards have been slipping industrywide.
This is unacceptable!

This is the kind of news story that tweaks people's fears. While they WERE negligent in their dutes , everyone was ok. Heated argument .....my ass........... they screwed up plain and simple and SHOULD be disciplined for it , passengers should get some kind of credit (in case they missed connecting flights) and I love to fly ...so I'll be in there air a week from Saturday and can't wait. But they BETTER get to my destination , I've waited a year for this one { 0;
