Bad Directions

Who is worse? My husband or the GPS?

Is there such a thing as reliable navigation? This week a Nevada couple let their SUV's navigation system guide them through the high desert of Eastern Oregon and as a result, they got stuck in the snow for three days when their GPS unit sent them down a remote forest road!

THREE DAYS!

I don't know about you, but directions are always an issue in my family when we take road trips. Even when we print out the Map Quest instructions. We can't ever seem to get it right. In fact, there are only two places where my husband and I really argue...the tennis court and situations involving AUTOMOBILE NAVIGATION. Don't get me started, it can get ugly.

I like to say we, but the truth is my husband doesn't like to use the GPS system and hasn't even bothered to figure out how it works because he likes to FIGURE it out by himself.

We have had a lot of fun getting lost over the years.

I, on the other hand, rely not so much on its voice activated instructions, but on its ability to show you exactly where you are. That way, with directions in hand, you can kind of figure out if you are heading in the right direction.

Like I said, we have had a lot of fun getting lost over the years.

To GPS, or not GPS? That is the question. Can you trust them? I think that the answer is YES (in most situations) but pack a three day survival kit, JUST IN CASE.

This is so terrible to admit... I still get lost while using my GPS. Just the other night Colin and I got a 'tour de Pittsburgh' after I missed one turn. The GPS (who I have named Jack) took us through Oakland, The Hill (uhhhh yikes!), Downtown, Southside, then finally home. It was bad.

GPS..............like your husband , mine says Pittsburgh is on a block system ..........ya just drive around the block until you figure it out . Yeah I ask but how many blocks before you admit defeat? I could get lost in a brown bag and while I need a GPS I don't have one .......... so I rely on MapQuest ......my new best bud or I ask someone else to drive. To GPS or not to GPS? All I know is I shall not teavel the unknown alone.
