Song of the Sarong

A Mypheme shout out goes to the Dutch Traders who brought this invaluable item to the western world in the 16th century.

It’s a glamorous option to feeling over exposed. The trick is, getting the right fabric and learning how to tie the damn thing.

There are three standard choices: Tie Skirt, Wrap Skirt or Halter Dress but believe or not, there is also an advanced tie method that includes One Shoulder, Cascading or Pleated Sarong. (Very fine motor skills required for that).

I have a few friends who are experts at it and they’ve tried to give me tutorials on the proper way to tie, but I can never seem to get it 100% right.  That being said, even a half baked tie can still do the trick because when your accessorize a sarong with a great pair of flip flops, a fabulous tote and sun glasses that exude “Just back from the Cannes film festival” you feel like the sexy IT girl. Yes….SEXY. A hint of your leg (or more depending on how you tie) gives it just the right touch. That goes without saying the enormous benefit of covering up a lower half that you might not be feeling so comfortable about.

My lower half…where do I start?  (Remember blog #9?). Some things just happen to our bottom halves that we cannot control… age, birthing babies, commuting on a train, standing on our feet or just plain genetics. But what we can control is what we choose to put on it.
