Go For The Hook

Do you put your handbag on the floor?

If you do, then you might want to think twice about walking into the kitchen and
throwing your purse down on the kitchen counter. Do you have any idea
what is on the outside of your beautiful designer handbag as a result of
where you have been? Unless you live in a bubble the news isn't good.

Microbiologist Amy Karen of Nelson Labs in Salt Lake City decided to test a few
handbags and find out if they were a breeding ground for bacteria. She
reports that nearly every bag they examined showed alarmingly high samples of bacteria. Pseudomonas (can cause eye infections) staphylococcus (skin infections), salmonella and e-coli (intestinal and other infections) were just a few that she found.

They went further to determine that people with kids tend to have dirtier handbags
( no surprise there, yet another example of the perils of child-rearing.) The only exception were club goers who came back with all kinds of shit (pun intended) on their bags. Seriously, you do not want me to illuminate here.

Experts say you should think of your handbag the same way you would a pair of shoes. 'If you think about putting a pair of shoes on your counter tops, that's the same thing
you're doing when you put your handbag on the counter tops.  Your handbag has gone where individuals before you have walked, sat, sneezed, coughed, spat, urinated, emptied bowels, whatever, you get the picture.

The microbiologists at Nelson also said cleaning a handbag will help. Wash cloth handbags and use leather cleaner to clean the bottom of leather handbags.

Moral of the story:  If you are going to get sick from your purse, you may as well go out in style, go for the expensive designer bag, E-Coli looks much better on fine Italian leather!
