A Shopping Diet?
Maybe not a bad idea?
I read an article in the New York Times about a woman who started a company
that advises people how to put their closet on a diet. This means that you
not only clean out what you don't wear, but try to wear less. To demonstrate this
they had stories of people who picked 6 items of clothing and wore only those
pieces for a month. (I am assuming that underwear wasn't part of the deal, that would be just gross.) Most people didn't notice that they wore the same clothing at all. Not even one woman's husband who does the laundry!
There was a web challenge called Six Items or Less (sixitemsorless.com) that had participants from all over the globe. Another program called the Great American Apparel Diet, asks people to pledge to abstain from buying any clothing for an entire year. Started last September, at least half have thrown in the towel.
I am terrified to mention this idea to my husband, though I think he would probably
spring for a pretty nice birthday present if I gave up shopping for a year…hmmmm
maybe not a bad idea??

I need this! No way I could get to 6 items, but having a lot less definitely appeals...
