Lucky Seven
Your heart is at risk if you don't sleep at least 7 hours a night.
A new study just published in West Virgina University's "Sleep" journal reveals that adults who sleep fewer (or more) than seven hours a day, including naps, are increasing their risk for cardiovascular disease, the leading cause of death in the United States.
Please pass the paddles. I average 5 hours a night.
The study goes on to report that adults sleeping less than seven hours a night also suffer from slower reaction times and have more trouble focusing. And to think, I was blaming my hormones.
The truth is, I don't like being an underachiever, or a chronic yawner for the matter, so in order to stay in the game, I occasionally take the engine-charging-afternoon nap. Scientists call that "sleep recovery", a lofty name for hitting the couch.
Now if I could only extend my naps by 100 minutes per day, I'd been in the Lucky Seven zone. I can dream, can't I?
