Ultimate Bag Lunch

You have never seen a bag lunch like this one!

This week I attended a wonderful fundraiser for an amazing organization called PS Arts in Los Angeles, which is a non-profit organization dedicated to restoring arts education in public schools.  It was a great idea to get the Beverly Hills crowd to show up and pony up.  Many designers and others donated beautiful handbags to the event which were set up to be sold outright at a 20% discount, or sold to the highest bidder in silent auction by the attendee’s.  Whichever way you wanted to participate, all the proceeds went to the charity.   There were literally hundreds of beautiful bags to choose from and the ladies who lunch were ravenous for both the bags and the amazing lunch that was served after the bidding was over.
I couldn’t decide what was more fascinating.  The outfits, the jewelry, the celebrities, the amazing Beverly Hills home that was the location, or the bags that were for sale. Everyone started out on her best behavior but you could see the polite veneer start to crack when it came time for the auction to close.  Women were hovering over their choice picks.  You started to see sweaty brows.  Heels dug into the grass.  It didn’t get ugly but it was close.  One woman, who had purchased about 5 bags outright so she didn't have to bid, pulled back the tablecloth to reveal her prizes.  Women began rushing up to the table and started going after her booty.  "BACK OFF GIRLS!" she screamed with a ferocious smile, "these babies are all mine!"
I had my eye on a navy Derek Lam bag.   Another gal decided to go for the most expensive Hermes bag being sold, calling it her push present.  “What the hell is that?” I asked. “It’s for having my second kid,” she said wondering what stone I have been under. A push present?  That was it!! That was the excuse I was searching for.  The ammunition I needed to pull the trigger.  I needed to call my husband and have him pony up…16 years late is better than never.   When it comes to handbags, there is no trick left in the book to explain away the insane amount of money they cost.  Not that you needed it for a charity event.  What better excuse could there EVER be to purchase a new bag? That is the true genius here.  PS Arts gets the Mypheme award for good charity work! And by the way?  I scored BIG TIME on the bag I wanted.  Push present here I come!
