Going All Brazilian
Finally a semi-permanent way to cure unruly tresses, smooth out waves
and banish frizz that only requires three days of hair prison.
Hair prison? Damn straight….for three days after your treatment you:
1. Can’t wash your hair.
2. Can’t tie your hair up in a ponytail or use hair clips, bobby pins, or hair bands.
3. Can’t engage in any activity that causes sweating such as exercise etc. (oops, there goes sex)
4. Can’t put your hair behind your ears.
5. Can’t use glasses to hold your hair back.
The latest, greatest, feel-good-about-your-hair application is called the Brazilian Keratin Treatment. It’s a chemical process designed to smooth curly, frizzy hair. A keratin solution is applied and absorbed throughout the hair. Heat (450 degree flatironing) is used to activate, and seal the keratin to your hair. The average price ranges from $300 to $600, depending on the length and density. It’s designed to be long lasting without changing the physical structure of your hair and it fades over time with shampooing. If properly cared for ( special shampoo alert, but not that expensive), it can be last to 4 months.
I’ve have so many friends who have done it and the results are spectacular…it’s the hair prison that I have to get over. I like to work out and I sweat when I work out. Last week, I was working out next to my favorite friend who NEVER sweats and there she was in all of her UNSIGHTLY, greasy looking DAY 2 glory bragging about how the three days of hair prison are a “piece of cake”.
OMG, if I walked around like that, people would think I got a second job as a crack ho.
But I have to admit, that a couple of days ago, while taking a walk with said friend, in the humid, overcast coastal weather, my hair looked like I had stuck my finger in an electrical outlet and hers was as smooth as movie star silk.
Sign me up for hair prison.
