Excellent Schpilkas
A 5 year old tells us what it's like to live in captivity with his Mom in an 11x11 foot room.
A good friend of mine, who is a voracious reader, and kind of like my personal Oprah, highly recommended "Room" by Emma Donoghue as a "great" read. Beyond the above premise, she didn't tell me much about it except...
"I don't want to ruin it for you, but I absolutely loved it."
When people say "ruin", you know something good is brewing in the story. It's that gotta-have-it-word for me.
Well, all I can say is that this book made my five hour, red-eye plane ride seem like a puddle jumper. Even though I had the good intentions of sleeping on the flight, "Room" was truly one of those books that I just couldn't put down. I also had the help from a flight attendant who kept me going by bringing extra bags of pretzels while everyone else around me was sleeping.
"I heard that was a good book" she said.
"Disturbing" I added.
She put her hands up to his ears and said, "Don't tell me, I'm gonna read it."
Enough said. I hope that you find the time to read it too.
