The Carnegie Deli Lives!

After living in CA one expects the rest of the world to eat like Californians.

I was in NYC today and had a hankering for the Carnegie Deli.  There is no way to accurately describe the mountain of corned beef that was delivered to my plate.  It reminded me of the mountain that Richard Dreyfus tried to make with mud in Close Encounters of the Third Kind.   I really didn't want that much food but they don't allow you to order just a half. ( In L A, that would be a crime.)  At the Carnegie, a half sandwich can easily feed a family of 4.  Mix all that up with some good ole' NY attitude from the staff and you have yourself a perfect meal.

After living in LA, one forgets what portions like that look like and certainly eating anything resembling a huge mountain of corned beef is a rarity.  I picked my way thru half of the half at lunchtime and wasn't hungry again until the next morning.  I am going to have to do some practice runs, and workout like crazy before I go there again so I can mouth off to the staff and try to make it to the cheesecake for desert!
