Happy Days!
No, it's not the lottery or even a great gift.
I figure the guy was blowing smoke but I bought it anyway because I could and I wanted to. I actually got carded. Yup, that's right. Carded. Something that really used to piss me off but these days is something to celebrate. If I could have, I would have planted a big one on the waiter who asked me for my ID at a local restaurant. He was likely just over the drinking age himself and the way I figured it, probably needs glasses.
I wasn't expecting it and was lucky that I had my ID with me. I was with a bunch of girlfriends, some of whom are younger than me but not by much. I thought at first it was a joke. I am well past 40. And believe me, I don't look ANYTHING close to 21. The lights were not dim, was the guy fishing for a tip? Then I panicked. Do I have to actually show this guy how old I really am? Can't I keep the illusion going for just a tad longer?? It was the reverse of what it was like when I was under 21. I panicked then at getting caught. Now I didn't want the guy to catch my actual age. I wanted to live the fantasy for a few minutes more. I wanted to dance in that moment. I wanted to freeze time. I wanted to believe that he was for real. He asked again and waited patiently for me to fork over the drivers license.
I finally passed it over and he gave me a surprised look, but not that surprised. He grinned and said thanks and then asked what he could bring me. If he only knew that he already brought me a better buzz than any cocktail they offered. It was a GREAT day!
