Middle Age Prime
Open sea swim with sharks? I'll find another activity, thank you very much.
61 year old long distance swimmer, Diana Nyad had to abandon her 103 mile swim from Cuba to Florida early this morning due to high winds and bad currents that threw her off course.
Doesn't really matter that much because she was a winner the second she jumped into the water.
As much as I wanted her to finish, I was worried about the dangers of her choice to do a cage-less, open-sea swim where sharks are the few that enjoy middle aged prime meat, if you know what I mean.
I'm glad that she had the smarts to stop when she did. It's that NO FEAR thing that I'm all over. Her website, which tracked her journey, had this important statement for women:
"For decades, Diana has been at the heart and soul of the baby boom generation, many of whom are feeling irrelevant, lacking in vitality, and dejected that their best days are behind them. The authentic message, the walk that Diana walks, will resonate with millions of baby boomers looking for renewal, parents hoping their children spark to inspired lives, and women searching for proof that middle age is their prime, not the beginning of the end."
This is a call to arms! Let's find our own "open sea" and jump...fearlessly, into the moment.
