GPS Power Walk

I no longer make fun of my friend for taking her phone with her everywhere.

To get the full benefits of a "power walk", it's important to vary the terrain. Although speed is a key factor in getting a good workout, hills bring something else to the party. They get your heart rate up and you burn more calories. My friend, who shall remain nameless until the next sentence, calls them good "ups".

So this week, while catching up with my friend Karen by taking one of our famous power walks, she decided to vary our course in a neighborhood that she thought she was familiar with.

"Let's do some good ups", she suggested.

I was in for that as we both agreed that since we ate our way through most of July, we should go the extra mile. Repeat after me, extra mile.

Now when I say neighborhood, don't think of sidewalks and busy streets, think of rolling suburbia dotted with horse farms and other rural Connecticut scenery.

About an hour into the walk, and engrossed in conversation, I realized that I didn't recognize a single piece of scenery.  I popped one of my classic control issue questions,

"Where the f**k are we?"

Karen assured me that if we took the next winding turn up ahead it would set us back on the right path towards our cars. About 20 minutes later, she looked at me and said,

"I don't know where I am".

"I'm gonna guess New Hampshire" I offered.

Here we were, two women solving world problems, and lost on the rural roads of New England. Have I seen this movie?

Karen proceeded to whip out her iphone. "I have a GPS and a signal" she exclaimed. She typed in where our cars were parked and seconds later we had a map that plotted our way back.

The image of two middle aged women, getting lost on a suburban power walk and GPSing their way out was a classic.

"Blog worthy?" Karen asked.

Absolutely.

Good going! Got a better one than that. While shopping at Walmart my Hubby tells me I am going to the Mens Shop will meet you in the produce aisle. 20 minutes later "where are you?" I used my cell phone and it said" I am right behind you" thank you for cell phones.

later" where are you?" I used my cell phone and it said " I am right behind you" thank you cell phones.
