Thumbs Up for "The Help"
For once, the movie lives up to the book.
I know its a chick flick but hey, I'm a chick! Go and see The Help, a wonderful rendition of the book written by Kathryn Stockett. This mainstream film could have pushed the characters a bit deeper, but as the book was an easy read, so the film reflects the material. The cast is so strong that you don't mind the fact that they are glossing over civil rights, racism, the KKK and the total disregard for humanity that some, particularly in the south, had for each other. Viola Davis and Emma Stone were fabulous, as was Octavia Spencer who plays Minnie. And Cicely Tyson, still going strong. In addition, the production design and locations reflects so well what what written in the book. Amazing job there as well.
Great summer flick, check it out in theaters now.
