Polishing The Silver Years

A recent article in the NYT's about older women, 70's and 80's, having boob jobs, took me by surprise.

I hadn't given it much thought but when I read the New York Times article, by Abby Ellin, I was surprised to learn that 80+ year old women were choosing to go under the plastic surgery knife.  And I'm not just talking face lifts.  There were 2 women interviewed who were tired of tucking in their breasts and still wanted to look hot.  One of them is a restaurant owner who is single and felt like it would do her self esteem some good, and it apparently did.  Medically, the article states that if these women are healthy, their medications are safe and are willing, they are no more at risk than younger women.  To have a lift and implants was a 3 hour procedure which apparently went without a hitch.  One of the women had this quote:

"In my day, no one ever thought about breast enhancement," she said “But nowadays women go out and they would never get a second look if they show their age. I find that you have to keep up your appearance physically, even if you just want a companion or someone to ask you to dinner."

“That’s not going to happen if you don’t have a figure that these geezers are looking for.”
