Salon.com never fails to be one of the easiest to digest and read about an enormous variety of topics.  I literally go to it everyday and always find something of interest. A lot of the articles are written by everyday folks, as well as great essayists and writers.  They have a definite left of center point of view, and really get women in particular.  Today there was an article by Matt Zoller Seitz about the 10 most under-rated actors and actresses in TV and film today.  Super interesting list and great fun to read.
