Legs Like Mapquest
Can we see a show of hands for spider veins?
Mine first appeared during my first pregnancy. Was it the 45 pound weight gain? Was it the crossing of my legs? Was it just bad genes? It didn't seem to matter because once I had them, they just seemed to spread across my thighs.
I spent a lot of time and bank having Sclerotherapy, a process that has been used to remove superficial and unsightly red, blue or purple leg veins for decades. It involves the injection of a medicine (typically a sclerosant foam or other sclerosing agent) directly into the spider veins. The solution irritates the walls of the veins, causing them to become inflamed and then stick together. Over time, the dead blood vessels fade away and are naturally absorbed by the body.
That seem to work on some of them, but I have a lot of blood vessels on my legs that are too small to be injected. Little clusters of map-like spider veins that can make even the toughest, "what-you-see-is-what-you-get", kind of gal insecure about wearing shorts or skirts.
I tried laser too, but it didnt work as well for me. The anticipation of those zaps made me stencil my underwear, to be quite honest with you.
I have my own secret weapon and it's called DERMABLEND. I was on a film set years ago when I watched a make-up artist use it to cover a birthmark on an actor's face.
"This sh*t works everywhere" she said.
I bought it the very next day. It's an easy to apply leg make-up that you finish with a setting powder. When I say miracle worker, I mean it! Dermablend covers everything.
This week, my daughter sent me the link to this video that Dermablend is currently running on their site. It involves a tattooed man.
"You have to see this, Mom" she said, "it made me think of you".
Oy.

Do not worry Honey, you are so special that beautiful smile that by the time you put on your shorts it won't matter. Your old Mom still wears shorts and by the time they get passed my blue eyes and my dimple legs are second. Smile I love you.
