Giant Psycho Tank

Float nude in Carsten Höller's exhibit at the New Museum in New York.

If you're a germ-a-phobe then you might want to opt out of participating in Carsen's "experience" art now on display at the New Museum. One of the most controversial installations involves a giant pool of swirling, super-salted warm water, where nude users (yes, that could be you) float effortlessly next to each other.

It's designed to capture a strange "out-of-body feeling" by using sensory deprivation. With a bunch of people doing it at the same time, it's like naked, floating, bumper cars.

Ew. Ew. Ew.

Rumor has it that the NYC Health Department is limiting the floaters to one at a time...you know, for health risks. Ya think?

The show runs through January 15, 2012.

The exhibition also features a new light installation; disorienting architectural environments; a mirrored carousel, and a recreation of Höller’s Experience Corridor, where viewers are invited to undertake simple but affecting tests on themselves.

No surprise that Carsten used to be a scientist. Calling all arty lab rats!
